In 1987, the Missouri State Conference of Young People in Alcoholics Anonymous was founded for the purpose of furthering the principles of A.A. among young people. The same year, a permanent committee was established for the preservation of the experience and material.
The first Missouri State Conference of Young People in Alcoholics Anonymous (“MOSCYPAA”) was held the weekend of May 22nd in 1987. The second was held the weekend of May 28th, 1988. The fourth MOSCYPAA was held the weekend of November 1st 1990. The fifth MOSCYPAA was held in 1991. The sixth was held in 1992. The Seventh was held in 1993 (with the theme “When all else fails, read the directions”). The eighth was held in 1994 (with the theme “Vision for You”). After 1994, MOSCYPAA stopped meeting. Several young AAs made efforts to pay off MOSCYPAA debt in 1998; however, the conference was not revived at that time.
Following the close of the 54th ICYPAA in St. Louis on the weekend of September 14th, 2012, the Host Committee members of the 54th ICYPAA and the newly inspired base of young people who attended the conference felt it vital to revive MOSCYPAA. Members of the 54th ICYPAA Host Committee took it upon themselves to elect an advisory council from their membership. MOSCYPAA returned in 2015 and has been held annually ever since.
Gratefully, through love and service, and a reliance on a Higher Power of our understanding, we, the young people of Missouri AA, have been given another opportunity to carry the message that was so freely given to us.
